Project Work Performance Domain

Every project is run by conducting a series of tailored processes. The nature and specifications of these processes are established by a tailoring approach done by the project team.

This is the process establishment part. Along with process establishment project work performance domain encompasses activities and functions about actively managing the physical resources of a project, actively performing project work, and promoting an efficient learning environment.

Examples of project work are as follow, as you may see there is much common work with the executing process group in PMBOK 6.
The main headlines considered under this performance area are;
  • Project Process Establishment: As part of this activity, the processes that are necessary to be conducted for producing the outcomes of the project, should be established by the project manager and the project team. They can use several tailoring methods depending on the characteristics of the project. Along with establishing processes, the project team should control the efficiency of these processes throughout the project.
  • Balancing Competing Constraints: Projects may have different constraints stemmed from different stakeholders. Some requirements of stakeholders may emerge as constraints of the project. Among these constraints, the competing ones should be balanced by keeping the stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Maintaining Project Team Focus: In order to create the intended value at the end of a project, a project manager should keep the project team focused and motivated. Therefore, the project manager should assess the factors affecting team focus closely throughout the pr
  • Project Communications and Engagement: In every process related to the project work, communication is an indispensable necessity. The project manager should grant effective communications by using standards in this performance domain and stakeholder performance domain.
  • Managing Physical Resources: Many projects need a large number of physical resources obtained by third parties. The point here is avoiding waste while working a successful logistics system.
  • Working with Procurements: This activities are almost the same with the ones in procurement knowledge area. Just try to be more agile.
  • Monitoring New Work and Changes: This part changes according to the development approach. In adaptive projects, project manager need to control the new work added to the backlog and behave according to the priorization of work. In predictive approach, formal change control processes should be followed to keep the scope under control.
  • Learning Throughout the Project: Project teams should learn from former experiences and should always think about how to make it better in the future.
